Bangkok: The Land of Foodgasms

Bangkok: The Land of Foodgasms

Home to one of the healthiest and mouthwatering cuisines, it is not possible to come to Thailand at 35 kgs and leave at 34.

Meaning to say, there is so much to choose from, that it is actually difficult to stick to one. So, I have listed five (5) Thai local (and barely noticed) foods that you cannot miss.

1. Saku Sai Moo สาคูไส้หมู

Bangkok: The Land of Foodgasms

This Thai tapioca dumpling is scrumptious without doubt! Grounded peanuts wrapped delicately in a tapioca wrapper, a popular street snack amongst the Thais. I was first introduced to it at Asiatique: The Riverfront and it was honestly, one of the best snacks I’ve had.

2. Roti Sai Mai โรตีสายไหม

Bangkok: The Land of Foodgasms

A famous product of Ayutthaya, this snack consists of candy floss and crêpe pancakes. The Roti is usually bought in two separate bags, one for the candy floss and another for the pancake. You roll the pancake around the candy floss and eat it like a burrito.

3. Khanom Krok ขนมครก

Bangkok: The Land of Foodgasms

Served hot, this Thai coconut pudding will melt in your mouth like bliss of heaven. It may be topped with green onion, sweet corn, taro or you may opt for a more natural taste by going plain. Either way, this treat will surely make your knees weak for more.

4. Nam Tao Hoo น้ำเต้าหู้

Thailand’s own version of soy milk, this is perfect for breakfast just as it is perfect to have any time of the day.

5. Pad Ka-Prao ผัดกะเพรา

Bangkok: The Land of Foodgasms

You know when every time we dine at a restaurant and is suddenly lost for words on what to order? Pad Ka Prao is our so-called “no idea” food that comes to the rescue. It is served anywhere and may be cooked with any meat of your choice. So next time you’re having a hard time choosing, here is your easy exit- the simple, but delicious Pad Ka Prao.

BONUS:

Who am I to not include the legendary Pad Thai and Yum Woon Sen? I must be crazy then!

Pad Thai ผัดไทย

 Bangkok: The Land of Foodgasms

Considered as the ultimate “Thai street food”, many foreigners are very fond of this Thai cuisine. Consisting of many eye-catching ingredients all plated nicely to the sides, it is mainly out of stir-fried rice noodles, eggs, roasted peanuts and a lime wedges.

Yum Woon Sen ยำวุ้นเส้น

 Bangkok: The Land of Foodgasms

This Thai dish is popular in almost every country. Totally effective as a diet food, they say, but I completely disagree. Because as soon as you start eating the Yum Woon Sen you just couldn’t stop eating. It is that good, I tell ya! With the perfect balance of crunchiness, chewiness and pungency, the Yum Woon Sen will totally woo your heart over.

Tasted any of these? Let me know what you think!
